Putin Announces Temporary Easter Ceasefire in Ukraine War

Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced a temporary ceasefire during the Easter holiday, declaring an end to military actions from 6pm on Sunday until 12am on Monday. However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed skepticism about the truce, stating that air raid alerts are still ringing out across Ukraine and accusing Putin of trying to “play with human lives.”

The ceasefire comes amid ongoing tensions between Russia and Ukraine, which have been locked in conflict for over three years. Despite the announcement, fighting continued on multiple fronts, including a recent Russian push in the Kursk region.

Trump’s comments on peace efforts were made after announcing an 80-page minerals deal that would be signed with Ukraine next week. However, details of the agreement remain unclear, and U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent later clarified that it was likely to be signed on April 26.

Zelenskyy warned that if Putin refuses to agree to ceasefire terms, the U.S. will “take a pass” on peace efforts. The Ukrainian president also expressed confidence in his country’s ability to defend itself against Russian attacks, stating that they would respond in kind to any strikes.
