Russian President Vladimir Putin has agreed to a partial ceasefire with US President Donald Trump, although the terms fell short of Trump’s initial request for an immediate 30-day halt in fighting. Instead, Putin limited the conflict to a halt on attacks on energy infrastructure and “technical negotiations” to ease navigation in the Black Sea.
Despite the lack of progress on Ukraine, both leaders emphasized their commitment to a broader geopolitical deal in the future. The two presidents also agreed to host hockey matches in each other’s countries, a gesture that has pleased Russians.
Trump’s push for a ceasefire has led Europe to adopt a more hawkish stance, with many nations taking steps to strengthen their military presence and counter Russian aggression.
