Putin Threatens To Breach Ukraine Deal Without Security Arrangements

UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer warned that Russian President Vladimir Putin would breach any peace deal with Ukraine if it is not defended, as he attended a meeting of senior military leaders in London. The UK and its allies are moving from “political momentum” to “military planning”, which must be done now to ensure the security arrangements make clear to Russia there would be “severe consequences if they are breached”.

Starmer ruled out redeploying UK troops from countries such as Estonia, saying there’s no pulling back from commitments to other countries. The meeting of military leaders discussed proposals for troops in Ukraine to guarantee the country’s security as part of any peace deal.

The potential deployment of troops should be described as a “reassurance force” rather than a “peacekeeping force”, according to defence and diplomatic sources. The UK is moving forward with plans, despite no final numbers being confirmed yet.

This comes as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia must stop making unnecessary demands that only prolong the war. Calls between US President Donald Trump, Putin, and Zelensky have failed to produce a 30-day ceasefire envisaged by the White House. The latest talks come as the US attempts to broker a ceasefire between the two nations after over three years of fighting.
