Qodo Unveils Agent Framework for Customizable Coding Agents

Qodo, a coding platform, is launching Qodo Gen CLI, a new framework that allows developers to create their own AI-powered coding agents. This move aims to integrate agentic AI into the software development life cycle, particularly in code review and testing.

According to Qodo co-founder Itamar Friedman, AI must be integrated across the entire process, with context engine playing a crucial role. The platform’s unique feature is its ability to handle large codebases due to its context engine.

To bring agentic AI into all parts of the software development process, developers need to take their agents outside the IDE and into the command line. Qodo Gen CLI enables customization through Model Context Protocol (MCP) tools, allowing agents to use third-party tools and access additional data.

Developers can now specify the observe, orient, decide, and act (OODA) loop in their configuration file, defining the agent’s behavior and setting goals for it to achieve. The agent follows these rules 99.9% of the time.

Qodo Gen CLI also includes a new command, “create agent,” which guides developers through the process of creating an agent using best practices. Pre-built agents will be available for tasks like code review, test coverage analysis, and release note generation, integrating with popular CI/CD tools.

The Qodo team is exploring how to interact with these agents in the future, considering the development of agentic development environments that provide user interfaces tailored to specific tasks.
