Qualcomm has unveiled its next-generation mid-range processor, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4. This chipset boasts a 4nm process and the same 1x3x4 architecture as its predecessor, with no significant changes to the Kryo CPU’s core frequencies.
While it may not be a massive leap forward in performance, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 offers a slight boost in speed of around 7% compared to the previous generation. This increase is largely attributed to the single 2.7GHz Cortex-A720 prime core and the Adreno GPU, which now supports ultra-wide displays up to 2900×1300 at 144Hz.
Notably, the new chipset includes updated GPU capabilities that will enhance support for various screen types, particularly in emulation devices. The Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 is also more widely available than its predecessor, with a broader distribution across regions including North America.
While it may not be the most exciting upgrade, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 should provide satisfactory performance for budget-friendly devices and consumers looking to stay up-to-date for another year. However, fans of Qualcomm’s flagship entries may want to hold off for the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 release.
