To address this issue, Steve Brierley, founder and CEO of Riverlane, emphasizes the importance of quantum error correction (QEC). “Solving quantum error correction is no longer a distant goal – it has become the fundamental cornerstone of quantum computing,” he states. Riverlane’s Quantum Error Correction Report 2024 explores current QEC development, opportunities, and challenges.
The company is developing Deltaflow, a QEC computing stack that solves errors using various qubit types. Deltaflow includes a quantum error decoder and an orchestration layer for real-time error correction. According to Brierley, achieving one million error-free quantum operations will mark a pivotal moment when quantum computers surpass classical supercomputers.
As QEC advances, new challenges arise. Quantum computing requires new performance metrics and application-specific benchmarks, as current ones may not be adequate. Managing complexity, ensuring equitable access, and international standards are also crucial for the technology’s widespread adoption.
