Quarter of US Shoppers Ditch Favorite Stores Over Politics

A recent survey found that a quarter of U.S. shoppers have stopped shopping at their favorite stores due to company values and politics shifting under the new Trump administration. The Harris poll revealed four in 10 Americans are changing their spending habits to align more with their politics, with Democrats being more likely to take action. Major retailers such as Walmart and McDonald’s have responded by phasing out Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives. Some shoppers, or “opting out,” are trying to cut back on spending altogether to avoid getting caught up in combining politics and consumerism. This trend suggests consumers are seeking a way to disengage with businesses that don’t share their views, rather than actively boycotting them.
