Quentin Tarantino has explained why he passed on directing Netflix’s upcoming Once Upon a Time in Hollywood follow-up. The project was announced in April with Brad Pitt reuniting as Cliff Booth from the 2019 film. However, it was revealed that David Fincher would be helming the project instead of Tarantino.
Tarantino expressed his hesitation to direct the sequel, stating he didn’t want his 10th and final film to be a follow-up. He wanted to create something entirely new and challenging himself in uncharted territory.
Tarantino praised Fincher as the right director for the job, describing them as two of the best directors working today. He expressed admiration for Fincher’s work on Tarantino’s scripts and believes it shows a level of seriousness towards his work.
Despite not being directly involved with the production, Tarantino will still write the script and serve as a producer. This will ensure he’ll be available if needed during production.
