Colts left guard Quenton Nelson expressed his frustration with the team’s consistent quarterback turnover, which has been ongoing since Andrew Luck’s retirement in 2019. The latest change saw Daniel Jones take over as the starting QB after beating out Anthony Richardson.
Nelson, who has blocked for 11 different quarterbacks since 2018, believes that consistency under center is crucial for the offensive line to build chemistry with a quarterback. “It’s frustrating,” he said. “You see teams like Kansas City with Patrick Mahomes, where they’ve built a strong relationship over the years.”
The Colts have tried various quarterbacks since Luck’s retirement, including Carson Wentz, Philip Rivers, and Jacoby Brissett, but none of them could maintain consistency. Richardson was expected to end this trend, but his injury-plagued season and inconsistent play led to Jones taking over.
Despite Richardson’s agent firing shots at the Colts, the third-year quarterback took the news in stride, saying he respects the decision and will keep working to improve. However, with Jones on a one-year contract, there is no guarantee that Nelson won’t be blocking for another starting QB in 2026.
