WWE superstar R-Truth has been released from the company after 17 years, according to a statement made by Truth himself and confirmed by wrestling reporter Sean Ross Sapp. The 53-year-old actor, whose real name is Ron Killings, expressed his gratitude to WWE and its fans on social media.
Killings’ departure comes after a recent storyline with John Cena, culminating in a match at Saturday Night’s Main Event on May 24 where Cena cheated to win. Truth also recently wrestled JC Mateo on SmackDown this past Friday.
The wrestling community has responded with an outpouring of support for Killings, with fellow competitors like Rhea Ripley and Pat McAfee sharing their appreciation for his contributions to the company. Throughout his career, Killings achieved numerous accolades, including two WWE United States championships, two WWE Tag Team championships, and holding the record for most reigns as WWE 24/7 champion.
Killings made history in Total Nonstop Action (TNA) by becoming the first recognized Black NWA World Heavyweight champion, a title he held twice. He was also a three-time Tag Team champion in TNA, including once with former NFL cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones.
The news of Killings’ release has sparked an outpouring of love and support for him on social media, as fans mourn the loss of his comedic segments and levity to WWE programming.
