Ralph Macchio Returns in Karate Kid: Legends After 36 Years

Ralph Macchio is reprising his role as Daniel LaRusso in the upcoming film Karate Kid: Legends. The movie marks Macchio’s first return to the franchise since 1994’s The Next Karate Kid and 2010’s remake.

Macchio, who starred in three original Karate Kid films in the ’80s, spoke about his decision to rejoin the series after years of discussions with the studio. He wanted to explore Daniel LaRusso’s narrative and see where it would land in terms of his character’s evolution. Macchio stated that he was drawn to connecting his film with Jackie Chan’s character Mr. Han, who is Mr. Miyagi’s friend from a previous story.

Macchio also expressed his openness to the future of the franchise, saying he will only return if it remains true to the original characters and stories. He praised the franchise for its ability to “do it right” when care and attention are given.

In Karate Kid: Legends, Macchio stars alongside Jackie Chan, who has appeared in multiple films within the franchise. The movie also features Ben Wang, Joshua Jackson, Ming-Na Wen, and Sadie Stanley.
