This weekend marked two significant religious occurrences – the Muslim holy month of Ramadan and the Jewish calendar’s arrival of Adar, a time of joy, resilience, and salvation from destruction. While these months offer contrasting messages on faith and war, one thing is clear: Hamas has exploited Ramadan to justify violence, oppression, and destruction in Gaza.
In contrast, Adar reminds Jews of their historical survival against those who sought their annihilation, offering a different lens through which to view Israel’s war with Hamas. For Muslims, Ramadan teaches gratitude, empathy, and self-control, encouraging acts of charity and kindness to the less fortunate. However, Hamas has twisted Ramadan’s meaning, using civilians as human shields and refusing ceasefires that could bring relief to its people.
Israel, despite being at war, has taken measures to ensure respectful observance by Muslims in the country, including stringent policies to keep worshipers safe. The paradox is glaring: Israel does its best to accommodate Muslim citizens during Ramadan, while Hamas continues to violate Islamic tenets.
The Jewish state’s approach to Ramadan stands in stark contrast to Hamas’s actions. While Jews celebrate life, freedom, and survival during Adar, Hamas spreads suffering, destruction, and oppression in the name of Islam.
Ultimately, this war is not just military; it is moral. It pits those who celebrate life against those who glorify death. Israel will continue to fight for life, while Hamas will continue to use faith to justify terror. If Ramadan is to remain a sacred month, Muslim leaders must reject Hamas’s perversion of Islam and demand that faith be used for peace, not terror.
