New York Rangers President and General Manager Chris Drury made a significant move today, acquiring forward J.T. Miller and defensemen Erik Brannstrom and Jackson Dorrington from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for forward Filip Chytil, defenseman Victor Mancini, and a conditional first-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft.
Miller, 31, has been a consistent producer with nine goals and 26 assists in 40 games this season. He ranks second on the Canucks in assists, points, and power play points, and seventh in the NHL with a 58.6 faceoff percentage. Miller’s impressive career statistics include 674 points in 839 regular-season games across 13 seasons.
A native of East Palestine, Ohio, Miller has represented the United States at various international competitions, including the IIHF World Junior Championships. He was originally drafted by the Rangers in the first round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft and played parts of six seasons with the team before being traded away.
Brannstrom, 25, has notched three goals and five assists for eight points in 28 games this season. The 5-10, 185-pound blueliner has tallied 77 points in 294 career NHL games between Vancouver and Ottawa. Brannstrom was originally selected by the Canucks in the sixth round of the 2022 NHL Draft.
Dorrington, 20, is a talented young defenseman who has combined for 28 points in 91 collegiate games this season. The Manchester native played for Des Moines in the USHL before being drafted by the Canucks in the sixth round of the 2022 NHL Draft.
The trade brings new energy to the Rangers’ roster as Miller and Brannstrom look to make an impact in their first seasons with the team.
