Sean Kingston, 35, a former teen heartthrob rapper, has been convicted by a jury along with his mother, Janice Turner, 62, of a scheme involving over $1 million in wire fraud. The pair used fake documents to obtain high-end vehicles and luxury items from car dealerships and jewelers.
Each faces up to 20 years in prison on five counts of wire fraud. Turner will serve time without bail, while Kingston was allowed to post a $500,000 home as bond. He will remain under home detention with electronic monitoring.
Kingston’s music career began at 17, when his single “Beautiful Girls” topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 2007. The scheme allegedly occurred between 2006 and 2012, during which Turner had previously pleaded guilty to similar charges.
