Rapper Sean Kingston Sentenced to 3.5 Years in Federal Prison for Luxury Fraud Scheme

Singer and rapper Sean Kingston has been sentenced to three and a half years in federal prison for his role in a $1 million luxury fraud scheme. The sentence was handed down on Friday after Kingston’s March conviction.

Kingston, 35, will also serve three years of probation following his release. He was remanded immediately and will be taken to the Bureau of Prisons. A restitution hearing is scheduled within 90 days unless both parties reach an agreement beforehand.

The scheme involved luxury items including a bulletproof Cadillac Escalade and expensive jewelry. Prosecutors said Kingston lured sellers of high-end items to his Florida homes with promises of social media promotion, then submitted fake wire transfer receipts to obtain the merchandise without payment.

Kingston’s defense attorney argued that his client had no control over his finances and was manipulated by his mother, who acted as his business manager. The judge rejected this argument, saying Kingston showed acceptance of responsibility and did not obstruct justice like his mother.

The sentence is lower than the recommended five years, with the judge citing the unique circumstances of the case and Kingston’s good character. A restitution hearing is scheduled to determine how much Kingston will pay back to his victims.
