Rare 7-Planet Parade Visible This Week

A rare event is happening this week, offering a unique opportunity for skygazers to see seven planets in our solar system aligned together. According to NASA, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn will be visible without any optical assistance, making them easily observable shortly after sunset on Friday.

To spot Neptune and Uranus, however, a telescope is required. This alignment is not uncommon, as the planets are always lined up in an ecliptic plane around the Sun. The event occurs when the planets align on the same side of the Sun, appearing close together in the night sky.

The addition of Mercury and Venus makes this particular alignment more exciting, as they orbit closer to the Sun than Earth and can be harder to see. This is not the first time such an event has occurred, with similar alignments happening throughout January and February. Another rare alignment will take place in August 2025, when four planets will be visible at once before sunrise.
