A rare full lunar eclipse is set to occur overnight on March 13th into the 14th, visible from all of North America. According to Professor Rachel Humphrey at St. Cloud State University, the Earth’s shadow will cast a reddish hue on the lunar surface during this event.
The totality of the eclipse is expected to last for 65 minutes, occurring between 1:26 and 2:31 a.m. central time. The entire eclipse will last approximately six hours.
In anticipation of the event, the St. Cloud State Planetarium is hosting a special public program on March 14th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., featuring a screening of the documentary “Back to the Moon for Good” followed by a tour of the current night sky. Admission is free, with a $5 donation suggested due to limited seating spots. To register, email [email protected].
