Comet 3I/ATLAS, the third confirmed interstellar comet, was recently photographed by two Mars orbiters showing a bright dot against distant stars at 18,641,135 miles from Mars. This rare sighting offers scientists a chance to study the comet’s behavior and growth of its tail. The comet poses no threat to Earth, but will make its closest approach to the sun in late October, making it visible until September. Scientists are analyzing data to learn more about this rare phenomenon.
