Rare ‘Planet Parade’ to Occur This Month

Fans of stargazing are in for a treat this month as Mercury is set to complete the lineup of six planets visible from Earth. The current planet parade features five planets – Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune – which can be observed with the naked eye. A rare chance to spot Mercury will also be available, usually too close to the Sun to see, for a few days beginning August 17.

The celestial phenomenon occurs when multiple planets appear in the same part of the sky at the same time, making it a special sight for astronomers and stargazers alike. To observe these planets, they must be high enough above the horizon, typically around ten degrees or higher. This month, the planets will rise just before sunrise in the Northern Hemisphere.

The planet parade is not rare to spot, but this will be the last of 2025. The lineup will shift as Mercury moves further from the Sun and hides behind it towards the end of the month, with a crescent Moon joining the parade.
