Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice is set for a disciplinary hearing with the NFL on September 30 in New York. Former U.S. district judge Sue L. Robinson will preside over his case. The only other disciplinary hearing she has conducted was Deshaun Watson’s in 2022.
Rice faces potential disciplinary action after being involved in a multicar crash during the 2024 offseason, which left multiple people injured. He pleaded guilty to two third-degree felony charges and received a 30-day jail sentence and five years’ probation. The case will be dismissed if he completes his probation.
Despite the impending discipline, Rice is expected to play the first four weeks of the season for the Chiefs, who open against the Los Angeles Chargers in São Paulo, Brazil. Coach Andy Reid has stated that all pass catchers, including Rice, tight end Travis Kelce, and others, will be available for the season opener.
Rice expressed his determination to focus on his performance on the field, saying he learned from the experience and is committed to being back with his teammates as soon as possible. However, following a disciplinary hearing, he could face a multigame suspension from the league, which would require him to serve immediately if imposed.
