Raw Cat Food Recall Issued Due to Bird Flu Contamination

A raw cat food brand, Wild Coast LLC dba Wild Coast Raw, has issued a recall of its Boneless Free Range Chicken Formula due to potential contamination with bird flu (H5N1). The company is recalling 16-ounce and 24-ounce versions of the product sold on the West Coast in Oregon and Washington.

Pet owners who fed their cats these products are advised to watch for symptoms of bird flu, including fever, lethargy, low appetite, and respiratory issues. If your pet shows these signs, contact a veterinarian immediately.

While there is no risk of human infection from handling raw pet food, it’s still possible to contract the virus if you touch your eyes, mouth, or nose. Wash your hands thoroughly, sanitize surfaces and dishware, and monitor yourself for symptoms such as eye redness, cough, and fever.

The recall was initiated after Oregon and Washington state agriculture departments detected the same strain of H5N1 in affected cats and the contaminated food products. Pet owners are urged to discard any remaining containers of the recalled product to prevent animals and wildlife from consuming it.
