Raw Frozen Cat Food Recalled Over Bird Flu Risk

A recall has been issued for the Savage Cat Frozen Cat Food product by the New Mexico Department of Agriculture due to its positive test results for Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza virus. The affected product is available in two packages: an 84-ounce container with 28 three-ounce packets and a 21-ounce package containing seven 3-ounce packets.

Pet owners are advised to stop feeding the food to their cats if they have the lot number 11152026 on their packaging. Early signs of HPAI virus infection in cats include fever, lethargy, low appetite, and eye or respiratory symptoms. If any such symptoms are observed, it is recommended to consult a veterinarian.

Notably, there have been no reported cases of domestic cat exposure related to the recalled food so far. The product is distributed by Predator Pet Inc., which has Savage Pet products at several New Mexico retail locations.
