Meta is reportedly bringing advanced features from its Orion smart glasses prototype to the upcoming Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses model. The Orion glasses, teased by CEO Mark Zuckerberg as “the most advanced glasses the world has ever seen,” aim to bridge the gap between smart glasses and full-fledged VR/AR headsets.
The Wall Street Journal reports that the new Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses will feature a small in-lens screen, wristband controller, and a pass-through display. This would introduce an augmented reality (AR) component with a holographic interface, allowing users to navigate menus with hand gestures and capture their surroundings without obstructing their view.
However, concerns about battery life remain a major question mark. The Orion glasses’ design challenges suggest that the new technology may require significant advancements in compressing hardware to achieve a similar size as the existing Ray-Bans. Pricing is also uncertain, with estimates ranging from $10,000 per pair for the Orion prototype.
Meta has not confirmed these features, but user feedback suggests this technology is among the most requested by users. The company’s commitment to pioneering wearable AR technology will be crucial in addressing these challenges.
