Recall Alert: Salmonella Contaminated Organic Eggs Sold at Costco Nationwide

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has raised the alarm on organic eggs sold at Costco, citing a high risk of salmonella contamination. The recall affects over 10,000 units of Kirkland Signature Organic Pasture-Raised 24-count Eggs, with UPC number 9661910680 and a use-by date of January 5.

Handsome Brook Farms, the supplier behind the brand, issued the recall on November 27 due to an error in packaging. The company mistakenly packaged eggs meant for wholesale distribution in retail packaging, potentially contaminating over 250,000 eggs.

Consumers who purchased the affected eggs are advised to discard them or return them to Costco for a full refund. The FDA has designated this recall as Class I, indicating a “reasonable probability” of serious health consequences, including adverse health effects or death.

Salmonella infections can cause severe symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal cramps, fever, and nausea. Vulnerable populations like young children, older adults, and those with weakened immune systems are at higher risk.

To determine if their eggs are part of the recall, customers should check for the UPC number and use-by date on the packaging. For more information, consumers can consult Costco’s website or contact their local store.
