Recall Issued for 5.2 Million Recalled Swimming Pools

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Health Canada have issued a recall notice for over 5.2 million aboveground swimming pools across the US and Canada due to nine reported drowning deaths among children.

Pools sold by Bestway, Intex Recreation, and Polygroup between 2002 and 2025 are affected, with compression straps that can pose a risk of small children accessing the water unattended. To date, nine children in the US have drowned after gaining access to these pools.

Consumers with recalled pools are urged to contact the manufacturer for a free repair kit, which includes a rope to replace the compression strap. Pool owners are advised to ensure children cannot access the pool without supervision or drain the pool until the repair is made.

The recalled pools are 48 inches or taller and can be identified by brand and model names listed on recall notices. Approximately 5 million were sold in the US, while another 266,000 were sold in Canada.
