Recognizing Early Signs of Alzheimer’s Disease

In the UK, approximately one in three people will face dementia during their lifetime. While no cure currently exists, available treatments aim to ease symptoms. ER doctor Dr Joe has shared insights on recognizing early signs of Alzheimer’s disease on TikTok.

If you’re worried about a loved one, there are 10 early signs to watch out for. According to Dr Joe, memory loss disrupting daily life is the first indicator. This may manifest as repeated questions, forgetting recent information, or relying heavily on reminders. He also mentions difficulty completing familiar tasks, such as driving to a location visited before or organizing a grocery list.

Visual image and spatial relationship issues can also be warning signs. Individuals may experience problems with depth perception while driving or encountering balance difficulties when reading. Other indicators include new problems with words in speaking or writing, misplacing items, poor judgment, withdrawal from work or social situations, and changes in mood or personality.

While Alzheimer’s disease typically affects those over 65 years old, statistics show that approximately 1 in every 13 individuals diagnosed with the condition are under 65. However, it’s essential to be aware of these early signs to ensure timely intervention and support for yourself or a loved one.

If you’re concerned about your health or someone else’s, consult a healthcare professional. Early detection and treatment can significantly impact the quality of life for those affected by Alzheimer’s disease.
