Red Robin is closing about 70 underperforming restaurants as part of a debt repayment strategy. The company’s total revenues for 2024 decreased by $54.5 million compared to the previous year, and its net loss reached $77.5 million.
However, the Topeka Red Robin location at 6230 S.W. 6th St is not expected to close. It is a franchise-owned restaurant operated by PB&J Restaurants, an enterprise group headquartered in Overland Park. This means that the corporate-owned locations are the ones likely to be closed over the next five years as leases expire.
According to Red Robin’s president and CEO, G.J. Hart, most of the underperforming locations will close within this timeframe. The company expects to close 10-15 restaurants in 2025 alone. Despite this, Hart expressed confidence in the brand’s future potential, citing improvements made to the guest experience.
