Red Sox Pitcher Crochet Tied Game with 99 mph Fastball Against Judge

Garrett Crochet’s impressive performance on the mound continued as he held the New York Yankees scoreless for a career-high 8⅓ innings, striking out three, including slugger Aaron Judge, seven times. The outing was a crucial factor in Boston’s extra-inning win over the Yankees.

However, with Boston clinging to a 1-0 lead and Crochet facing Judge again in the ninth inning, he made a critical mistake. A 99 mph fastball dropped off the strike zone, allowing Judge to blast it 443 feet into Fenway Park for his second career game-tying home run in the ninth inning or later.

Despite the costly error, Crochet expressed pride in his overall outing, saying, “I’m going to live and die with my best pitch.” Manager Alex Cora also defended Crochet’s decision to leave him in the game, stating, “He was throwing great… We gave him a shot. It didn’t work out.”

Crochet’s partner, catcher Carlos Narvaez, helped salvage the night with a walk-off single in the 10th inning, his first career walk-off hit. The win marked Boston’s third straight over the Yankees. For the season, Judge is 1-for-7 with six strikeouts against Crochet.

The loss did not deter Crochet from acknowledging his impressive performance, saying, “It was a special feeling jogging back out there.”
