Red Sox Rookie Roman Anthony Makes Historic MLB Debut

Roman Anthony, 21 years old, made history as the youngest player in Red Sox history to debut at just 20 years, 274 days old. In his major league debut against the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday night, Anthony went 0-for-4 but received a standing ovation from the crowd and cheers during pregame introductions.

Anthony’s MLB debut was preceded by an impressive stint in Triple-A this season, where he batted .288 with 10 homers and 29 RBIs in 58 games. He had been ranked as the No. 1 prospect in baseball just a month ago, according to ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel.

Despite a few mistakes on the field, including an error that led to an unearned run, Anthony was thrilled to finally take the field with his teammates. “It was nice to forget about all the outside noise and just be able to take the field,” he said after the game.

The Red Sox made room for Anthony on the 40-man roster by designating first baseman/outfielder Ryan Noda for assignment, citing the need to win ballgames. Manager Alex Cora expressed excitement over the young prospect’s performance, saying “We’re trying to win ballgames… The kid has done an amazing job getting ready for this moment.”

Anthony’s debut was a significant moment for the organization, and fans are eager to see him continue his growth as a player.
