Reduced Step Count Found to Cut Premature Death Risk by Half

A new study from the University of Sydney suggests that taking 7,000 steps per day can significantly reduce the risk of premature death by nearly half. The research, which analyzed data from 57 studies across 10 countries, found that daily walking had a substantial impact on various health metrics, including cancer, dementia, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.

Compared to taking only 2,000 steps per day, walking 7,000 steps daily reduced the risk of all-cause mortality by 47%. This finding was nearly identical to taking 10,000 steps per day. The study’s authors believe that a sweet spot of 7,000 steps may be the most effective threshold for maximizing health benefits while being relatively easy to achieve.
