Reese Witherspoon has announced the casting of Lexi Minetree as a younger version of Elle Woods in Prime Video’s upcoming “Legally Blonde” prequel series “Elle.” The show will follow Woods’ life experiences before enrolling at Harvard Law School. Minetree, who has appeared in various short films and TV shows, was chosen after an extensive audition process.
Witherspoon shared the news with Minetree in a heartwarming Instagram video, saying they had to make a difficult decision but ultimately chose her for the role. The actress also praised Minetree’s talent, noting that their voices sound alike. Minetree has appeared in roles such as “The Murdaugh Murders” and “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.”
The “Legally Blonde” prequel series is part of a larger production deal between Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine company and Amazon Prime Video. The show will be created by Laura Kittrell, with Witherspoon serving as an executive producer. While the release date has not been announced, fans of the original film can look forward to seeing Woods’ origins on screen.
Witherspoon originally played Elle Woods in 2001’s “Legally Blonde,” which grossed over $141 million worldwide and spawned two sequels. The actress has expressed interest in revisiting the character for a third installment, with “Legally Blonde 3” being previously announced but never released due to scheduling issues.
