Remedy’s New Co-op Shooter FBC: Firebreak Takes a Different Approach

Remedy Entertainment is shifting away from their traditional single-player, third-person game formula with its new co-op shooter FBC: Firebreak. The game, set in the same universe as Control, promises to be a fun and pick-up-and-play experience with no cutscenes or lengthy tutorials.

FBC: Firebreak takes place roughly six years after the events of Control and follows a volunteer-based emergency response team tasked with stopping an interdimensional threat known as the Hiss. The game’s design pillars focus on making it easy to play with friends, being fun on repeat, and featuring content that feels like it could only be found in the world of Control.

The game’s core mechanics involve playing “Jobs” – single main objectives spread across various sections, allowing players to unlock new perks and gear. There won’t be a traditional ending or major story updates, making the game feel static compared to other online experiences.

Remedy has taken steps to avoid overwhelming players with too much content, ensuring that FBC: Firebreak can be played at any time without feeling like a “second job.” The game will include paid cosmetics and post-launch updates, but no time-restricted or FOMO-driven content. Instead, Remedy aims to provide a seamless experience for players with limited time.

FBC: Firebreak is set to launch later this year on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, with day-one releases on Game Pass and PS Plus.
