Remembering Jerry Garcia’s Enduring Music Legacy

Today, music fans around the world are celebrating the life and legacy of Jerry Garcia, the iconic guitarist and singer-songwriter who co-founded The Grateful Dead. Born on August 1, 1942, Jerry would have turned 83 years old today.

To honor his memory, we’re revisiting some of his most beloved songs, both with The Grateful Dead and as a solo artist.

First up, The Grateful Dead’s “Eyes of the World” is a staple of their live performances, showcasing Jerry’s mastery of improvisational guitar work. Next, they perform “Franklin’s Tower,” another fan favorite that highlights Jerry’s songwriting skills.

In addition to his work with The Grateful Dead, Jerry also collaborated with country musician Lyle Lovett on a cover of “Friend of the Devil.” This soulful rendition demonstrates Jerry’s ability to blend folk and rock styles.

Closing out our tribute is Jerry Garcia’s solo recording of “The Wheel,” a poignant reflection on the passing of time.
