Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-N.J.) has written to Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, warning of potential national security risks after a source code leak for the company’s AI tool Claude. The letter highlights the growing pressure on AI companies from Washington and comes as Anthropic battles with the Pentagon over its use of AI in defense operations. Gottheimer expressed concerns that if Claude is replicated, it could put the US at a competitive disadvantage in national security. He also pressed Amodei to improve internal safety protocols after a Chinese Communist Party-backed group hacked into Claude last year.
