Republicans Divided Over Affordable Care Act Subsidies in Texas

A group of four defecting Republicans joined Democrats to force a floor vote next month on a temporary extension of tax credits for millions of Americans. The subsidies, which have sparked debate since the government shutdown, will expire on December 31 if no solution is found. While most Republican representatives from Texas oppose extending the subsidies, some, like U.S. Rep. Monica De La Cruz, R-Edinburg, back a bipartisan plan that would extend the tax credits for a year with new guardrails to prevent fraud. The issue is expected to remain contentious until the new year as Republicans and Democrats work towards finding a solution.
