A new study has added more evidence to the link between Alzheimer’s disease and herpes simplex virus-1 (HSV-1). Researchers at the University of Pittsburgh found that HSV-1 infection can modulate levels of brain tau protein, which may initially protect the brain but later contribute to damage. The study, published in Cell Reports, suggests a complex interplay between infections, immune responses, and neurodegeneration, offering new potential targets for therapeutic development.
