The quest for the ultimate retro gaming experience has led to a remarkable discovery by Shank Mods, a renowned retro gaming enthusiast. The Japanese collector had been searching for Sony’s legendary KX-45ED1 model (aka PVM-4300) – a massive 45-inch CRT TV sold in the late ’80s for $40,000 – for years.
The elusive TV was spotted in a waiting room of a Chikuma Soba noodle restaurant and factory in Osaka, Japan. The location was slated for demolition, putting the TV’s existence at risk. Shank Mods launched a last-ditch effort on Twitter to recruit an Osaka local to save the TV.
Local game developer Bebe Tinari responded to the call and managed to visit the site, confirming that the TV still existed and even turned on. After securing the unit, Shank Mods has created detailed footage of the working PVM-4300, allowing collectors to experience its massive display size for the first time in years.
This remarkable find is a testament to the dedication of retro gaming enthusiasts who strive to preserve the past for future generations.
