A McDonald’s employee who reported a suspect to authorities may not receive a $60,000 reward for their tip. The New York City Police Department and FBI are offering the joint reward for information leading to the capture of Luigi Mangione, wanted in connection with the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.
The employee called 911 after spotting Mangione eating at a restaurant in Altoona, Pennsylvania. However, according to NYPD rules, tipsters cannot nominate themselves to collect rewards. This means the McDonald’s employee would need an investigating agency to make their claim. Even if they succeed, the reward will only be paid out if the arrest leads to a conviction.
