Meet Rey, the 15-year-old moniker chosen by a technical operator and public face of the hacker group “Scattered LAPSUS$ Hunters” (SLSH). Earlier this week, Rey confirmed his real-life identity and agreed to an interview. KrebsOnSecurity tracked him down and contacted his father, Zaid.
Rey’s journey began on BreachForums, an English-language cybercrime forum, where he was active from February 2024 to July 2025. Intel 471 reported that Rey used the handle “Hikki-Chan” on BreachForums, authoring over 200 posts between February and July.
Rey’s Telegram account (@wristmug) was particularly active in a cybercrime-focused channel called Jacuzzi, where he shared personal details, including his father’s occupation as an airline pilot. Rey claimed to be 15 years old and had Irish heritage.
However, Rey made several critical operational security mistakes that led to the discovery of his real-life identity and location. His email address (@wristmug) was linked to a BreachForums member who belonged to a hacktivist group called Cyb3r Drag0nz Team, known for launching DDoS attacks and cyber defacements.
Rey’s father, Zaid, confirmed that his son had been in contact with Europol authorities but couldn’t provide further details. Rey shared a screenshot indicating he had contacted Europol late last month.
The FBI recently seized the domains associated with BreachForums, describing it as a major criminal marketplace used by SLSH to traffic in stolen data and facilitate extortion.
Rey’s involvement with SLSH has led to him being “caught red-handed.” He claimed that ShinySp1d3r is just a rehash of Hellcat ransomware, modified with AI tools. Rey also shared that he had reached out to the Telegram account for Operation Endgame, an ongoing law enforcement operation targeting cybercrime services.
Rey’s story highlights the consequences of getting caught up in cybercrime and the importance of prioritizing operational security. The younger generation should be aware of the risks involved in participating in such activities.
Note: I’ve simplified the text by removing unnecessary sentences and phrases, while maintaining the core information about Rey and SLSH.
