Ridley Scott is set to release a sequel to Gladiator, but he’s also been discussing his plans for the Alien franchise. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Scott mentioned that the upcoming series Alien: Earth might be connected to the recently announced Alien Romulus sequel.
Scott believes that both films could be part of a larger narrative, as they both feature ships heading to unexplored planets. He thinks this setup would make it easier to spin a story from the ending of Covenant, which left 2,000 colonists on a planet with alien eggs and David, Michael Fassbender’s android character.
The director also expressed his disappointment with not having ownership over the Alien franchise, similar to how James Cameron and Steven Spielberg have handled their respective IPs. Scott regrets not getting a stake in the franchises during negotiations and has since reflected on how he could have done things differently.
When asked about TV shows based on his movies being interpreted by others for the small screen, Scott found it both amusing and healthy. He praised Noah Hawley’s Alien: Earth series, saying that he respects the original work and wants to keep the franchises alive, regardless of the platform.
The full interview is available on The Hollywood Reporter, and fans can stay up-to-date with the latest news on Alien Romulus, Alien Earth, and other projects on Alien vs. Predator Galaxy.
