Rigetti and Riverlane have demonstrated real-time, low-latency quantum error correction using a 84-qubit Ankaa-Qual quantum processing unit (QPU). The collaboration achieved error correction with processing times under one microsecond, crucial for avoiding data backlog in quantum computing. Leveraging Rigetti’s superconducting qubits, the experiment successfully utilized fast feedback to maintain coherent qubit states.
Real-time error correction is essential for fault tolerance, a key requirement for reliable large-scale quantum computing. This project is part of Rigetti and Riverlane’s ongoing collaboration, which includes developing quantum error correction on a 24-qubit system at the UK’s National Quantum Computing Centre. The integration of fast quantum hardware with real-time error correction technologies is a strategic step towards building commercially viable, error-resistant quantum systems.
