Rivian Opens Commercial Van Fleet Sales to US Businesses

Electric vehicle maker Rivian is now selling its commercial electric vans to any U.S. business that wants one. This move comes after ending an exclusivity deal with backer Amazon over a year ago.

Rivian will sell two types of vans, the 500 and 700 models, but only to registered businesses. This means van-lifers will have to wait for now.

The launch of Rivian’s commercial van fleet business is a new revenue stream that was previously dormant since its exclusivity deal with Amazon ended in November 2023. With Amazon already owning 20,000 of the vans and having invested $700 million in Rivian, this move aims to increase sales ahead of a more affordable SUV launch next year.

Rivian has been testing its vans with potential fleet customers and spent the past year preparing for this new business. The company collected feedback through pilots and built out service infrastructure, digital platforms, and other necessary tools. According to spokesperson Tanya Miller, these efforts have paid off, with successful trials from larger fleets.
