Rivian has introduced a new “California Dune Edition” version of its popular electric SUV, the R1, focusing on off-road performance and adventure. The limited-edition model comes in a unique color inspired by California’s desert dunes and features a more rugged interior.
The California Dune Edition includes the “Adventure” interior instead of the premium “Ascend” trim, which normally offers passenger lumbar adjustment, an electrochromic roof, and other luxurious features. Instead, buyers can expect features like darkout package, all-terrain package, sound + vision package, powered tonneau cover, and MAXTRAX recovery boards.
The key off-road upgrades include the all-terrain package with smaller wheels for improved tire sidewall and better performance, a spare tire, and reinforced underbody shield. The vehicle also comes equipped with MAXTRAX recovery boards mounted on the roof cargo rack to aid in recoveries from sandy situations.
Pricing remains the same as the regular R1 Tri-Motor at $99,900 for the R1T and $105,900 for the R1S, with the California Dune Edition available now at Rivian.com. The model will also be showcased live at SXSW festival in Austin, Texas from March 7-15.
