Robert De Niro’s daughter, Airyn De Niro, has come out as a trans woman in an emotional and powerful new interview. Born in 1995, Airyn had previously identified as gay but realized she didn’t align with that community. She spoke about the struggles of growing up feeling like she didn’t fit into societal standards, particularly regarding her identity as a Black person.
Airyn revealed that she found comfort in learning from trans women who were open and honest on social media, which inspired her to accept her true self. She also expressed pride in her Black heritage, saying it makes her feel closer to influential Black women.
The aspiring mental health counselor wants to use her platform to raise awareness for queer people of color and bigger-bodied individuals. Airyn hopes to emulate successful models like Alex Consani and Hunter Schafer, who she admires, by pursuing a career in modeling.
Airyn is one of seven children born to Robert De Niro and his ex-wife Toukie Smith. Her younger sister Gia was born in April 2023, and Airyn has spoken about her close relationship with her family despite their occasional disagreements.
