Robert De Niro’s ‘Zero Day’ Gets Realistic Boost from Obama Advisor Schultz

Robert De Niro’s new Netflix show “Zero Day” received a dose of reality from former President Barack Obama’s senior advisor Eric Schultz. Schultz worked as a consultant on the show, ensuring that its depiction of Washington D.C.’s inner workings was accurate.

Schultz, who has also consulted on shows like “Succession” and “Designated Survivor,” spent several weeks on set to get details right, including scenes in the Oval Office, briefing room, and Congress. He ensured that reporters were shown shouting questions and getting answers in a realistic way.

The show, which stars Angela Bassett, Lizzy Caplan, and others, is a conspiracy thriller about a global cyber attack. Schultz’s input was crucial in making sure the details were correct, from where characters sat in meetings to how they entered and exited certain rooms.

Despite the differences between Hollywood and politics, Schultz notes that collaboration is key to success. “There are so many pieces involved in getting something right,” he said. “Everyone has to have each other’s back.”
