Robert Lewandowski Scores Twice as Barcelona Wins La Liga Lead

Barcelona has re-established a three-point lead at the top of La Liga with a comfortable victory over Girona. Poland forward Robert Lewandowski scored twice, including an improvised finish just after the hour mark that put his team back ahead. He then added to his 25th league goal of the season after some fine midfield play from substitute Frenkie de Jong.

The hosts took an early lead through Ladislav Krejci’s own goal, but Barcelona responded with Lewandowski and Ferran Torres rounding off the scoring late on with a low effort into the bottom corner. The victory marked Barcelona’s ninth consecutive win in La Liga and will give them confidence heading into their Copa del Rey semi-final against Atletico Madrid.

Barcelona now leads Girona by nine points, with 66 points to Girona’s 34. The team has been on a roll, winning their past nine matches in La Liga. Real Madrid, Barcelona’s rivals, fought back from a two-goal deficit to draw with Leganes and move level on points at the summit of the Spanish top flight.
