Rock Legend John Sykes Passes Away at 65

Revered hard rock guitarist John Sykes has died at age 65 after a battle with cancer. Sykes was best known for his work with Thin Lizzy and Whitesnake, a multiplatinum-selling glam rock group.

Sykes’ love for music led to the creation of some iconic guitar tracks in the 1980s, including “Is This Love” and “Still of the Night,” which remain among the most memorable guitar solos of that era. He was known for his exceptional talent, but also as a kind and charismatic person who inspired many with his music.

After leaving Whitesnake following their self-titled album release in 1987, Sykes joined Blue Murder and later returned to Thin Lizzy in 1996. Although not as widely recognized as some of his contemporaries, such as Eddie Van Halen or Zakk Wylde, Sykes’ musical contributions to the genre are significant.

Sykes was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year and his fans had rallied around him during his final days, expressing their love and gratitude for his music. His legacy will live on through his timeless guitar riffs and solos, inspiring future generations of rock musicians.
