Rockets Coach Praises Amen Thompson’s Potential for Top NBA Player Status

Houston Rockets guard/forward Amen Thompson is drawing consideration for All-Defensive First Team honors and Defensive Player of the Year. In just his second season in the league, Thompson averaged 14.1 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game.

Coach Ime Udoka praises Thompson’s elite defense, athleticism, and positional versatility. “He can be a top 15-level player,” Udoka said. This high praise from a coach known for his defensive emphasis is notable. Thompson led a defensive effort against Golden State’s Steph Curry two weeks ago, limiting the superstar to just three points on 1-of-10 shooting.

With a playoff series against the Warriors looming, Thompson will have another opportunity to shine with a national spotlight. The Rockets’ primary defender on Curry, Thompson is poised to make a big impact in Game 1 of the first-round best-of-seven series on Sunday night at the Toyota Center.
