Rockstar Games has released GTA V Enhanced, a new PC version of Grand Theft Auto V, but it comes with a surprise limitation. The game’s frame rate is capped at 120 frames per second (FPS), which may frustrate PC players who have powerful hardware capable of pushing the game beyond that limit.
This limitation is particularly notable since Rockstar claimed that this version would support higher frame rates compared to the original, legacy version. However, the new version is now inferior in terms of frame rate limits.
Fortunately, a community member has discovered a simple way to bypass this limit using the game’s launch arguments. To do so, players can add the command “-maxFrameLimit 200” to their game’s settings on Steam, Rockstar Games Launcher, or Epic Games Store. This will increase the frame rate cap to 200 FPS.
The author of the original article has personally tested this and seen a significant improvement in performance, particularly when playing at high resolutions and with ray tracing effects enabled. The game also looks better than its legacy counterpart.
It’s worth noting that Rockstar may remove the FPS cap in the future due to some users’ reports of issues with DLSS 4 support on NVIDIA’s 50 Series GPUs. However, the company has confirmed plans to support MFG technology on both NVIDIA and AMD cards, although a specific release date is unknown.
In a surprise update, Rockstar Games released a patch after the article was published, which removed the FPS cap. This means that players no longer need to use the command-line argument to bypass the limit.
