Rockstar Games has released a major update for its highly anticipated remastered collection, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition. After three years since the initial launch, the studio has finally addressed one of the most requested features – Classic Lighting mode. This update brings several improvements to PC and current-generation console versions, but PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch users will not receive these changes.
The update’s main feature is the addition of Classic Lighting mode, which restores the original look and feel of the sky in the classic games. To access this mode, players can go to the pause menu, click options, and select the graphics tab. The setting is turned on by default.
Other improvements include the reintroduction of heat haze and ambient clouds high up in the sky, fixed issues with jeans, and enhanced playable character animations. Players can now shoot shotguns, assault rifles, and flamethrowers while running in GTA III and Vice City, as well as see improved street light colors and running/aiming animations.
The update is available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Steam, the Rockstar Games Launcher, and the Epic Games Store. However, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch users will not receive this update or its features.
Patch notes are vague, but the update includes numerous fixes and improvements. The update’s download sizes vary depending on the storefront, with the largest being 18.44GB for GTA San Andreas.
The update’s release comes after 11 months of anticipation from fans who had been requesting Classic Lighting mode since the game’s initial launch three years ago. With this update, Rockstar has finally addressed one of its most vocal fan requests.
